New Writer And Artist Incoming For Batman: Detective Comics

A new dynamic duo will be tackling Detective Comics with issue 13 in October!

DC Comics announced this morning that John Layman (writer of Chew) and Jason Fabok will now be working together on Batman: Detective Comics. The dynamic duo was asked what Bat-fans can expect as they take over the Detective Comics series, and they certainly give us all a reason to believe what they have in store is something we'll be buying regularly. Layman, is without a doubt, eager to start working with one of DC's most widely recognized characters.
€œObviously, this is a happily surreal and exciting turn-of-events for my career...Not only is this my first work within the DC Universe, but I get to work on one of DC€™s undisputedly coolest and highest-profile characters.€
Aside from his excitement, he presents readers with an enticing idea that he would be exploring the roles that criminal organizations fulfill within Gotham City, and hopefully be able to tell it from perspectives that aren't often considered. Layman went on to discuss the relationship of the criminal and a lil' bit about Batman:
"From the symbiotic relationship a master criminal must have with Gotham in order to survive, to the lowly, often faceless criminal underling hoping to rise up the ranks. All that, plus Batman€™s gonna play with a bunch of crazy new toys and kick all kinds of butt.€
It will certainly be exciting to see Layman's approach to the Caped Crusader. Additionally, many fans will surely be pleased that "fan favorite" artist, Jason Fabok, is the contributing artist for their takeover. Fabok's approach to the Dark Knight is certainly enough to excite fans. It's clear that readers are in for an impressive visual treat once the team's first issue hits store shelves. Fabok also revealed his plans for how he will approach the Caped Crusader.
"I'm really hoping to deliver a dark, epic Batman with hints of the art deco stylings of the old animated series and the more modern take seen in recent incarnations. I am hoping to let my influences gush out onto the page and create something that is familiar, classic and yet my own."
It will be an interesting collaboration. I can't wait to see how the team comes together, and where their visions take them as both meet on the page. Fabok had one last comment to make, on his collaboration with John Layman.
"As for working with John Layman, I couldn't be more excited. John is a great visual storyteller and he packs every page with meaningful panels that bring the story forward and add incredible depth. Together we hope to deliver a quality Batman tale, filled with mystery, twists, turns, shockers and most of all, fun!€
Are you excited for the recently announced collaboration? What do you think will come out of the team-up? Be sure to pick up issue #13 on October 3rd, and discover the results for yourself!
