DC could learn a lot from Marvel’s new approach to handling old hornhead, as this new series manages to act as a clean slate for the character without disrespecting- or retconning- any of the character’s established history.
The last chapter was left at a cliffhanger as Nagato was now under the full control of Kabuto and absorbed Bee’s chakra to gain his full power, grabbing Naruto and starting to pull out his soul..
So far the book has been more than mind-boggling, featuring inventive twists and turns that leave you desperate to know where the zany plot is going next.
This issue is just like the rest- featuring very little actual plot progression and action that, while explosive, is mindless and devoid of emotion.
It’s fitting that this book is released in the same week as Super 8- a film that prioritised character and heart over spectacle, and did so by revisiting the style of the classic Spielberg blockbusters- as Severed attempts to revitalise the horror genre in a similar fashion.
This chapter was filled with some intensity and a couple of interesting twists, with a last panel that looks as though it could change the way that this war is shaping up.

This alternate version of Gotham has proven to be both rich and staggeringly complex. The world of Thomas Wayne Batman is every bit as deep, compelling, and utterly tragic as the regular Batman is- in many ways, even more so. DC- take note- if Batman Beyond can justify having its own ongoing series, then this version of Batman certainly deserves one.
