6. He Was The Original Captain Marvel
While Carol Danvers may now be the Captain Marvel, the name belonged to Billy Batson for decades.
In the character's original Whiz Comics incarnation Shazam is known only as Captain Marvel, only being renamed when DC revived the series in the seventies, after Marvel sent a cease and desist to DC when they attempted to call their book Shazam: The Original Captain Marvel. Due to the titling of this book, the character simply became known as Shazam, something Geoff Johns stuck with in the New 52 incarnation.
This creates a somewhat confusing dichotomy between the wizard who bestowed Billy with his powers and the hero himself.
Whichever name you know the character by, his official name now, and probably will be forever, is Shazam.
