9. Ben Affleck's Involvement Is Once Again In Doubt
Everything seemed perfectly fine at Comic-Con when Ben Affleck pledged his commitment to The Batman in front of a fan-packed hall and described the Dark Knight role as "the coolest part in any universe, DC or Marvel.”
But rumours that Batfleck is about to hang up his cape and cowl are more undying that Ra's al Ghul and they've since been revived, by his brother Casey, no less.
The younger Affleck sibling told WEEI Sports Radio...
“I thought he was an OK Batman. No, I thought he was great. He was great. He’s a hero, so he had something to channel and work with there. But he’s not going to do that movie, I don’t think. Sorry to say. Is that breaking news? Because I was just kind of making that up, I don’t know.”
Obviously the "making that up" part casts doubt on the whole thing, but Casey's comments were enough to reignite the speculation, and follow-up reports suggest there may be more than a grain of truth in them.
Trade mag The Hollywood Reporter recently claimed that The Batman will be "part of Warner Bros.’ new label" and "star a new actor", although this may have been a rare blunder for the respected industry publication as it later issued a partial retraction.
Even so, the old 'no smoke without fire' adage springs to mind.
