The Joker: 10 Totally Different Characters He's Been

From unrepentant killer to Batman's gentleman lover...

Everybody knows The Joker. There may be certain things you weren't aware of before, but for the most part, his MO is as widely understood as that of his arch nemesis. His origin story might not be as clean-cut as Batman's, but he has a look, a mission, and a character that endures through endless retellings, reboots and radical departures. He's the Clown Prince Of Crime, the murderous supervillain in circus make up who is equally at home spilling the blood of thousands of innocents as he is in setting up an elaborate joke that ends with the Dark Knight opening a box containing a balloon that says €œboo€. In fact The Joker is a lot more complex than people may give him credit for. Whilst everybody knows the basics, they're so malleable that there's been countless different variations on the central Joker theme over the years. He's the most iconic Batman villain, and yet, he's rarely been the same person from appearance to appearance. From unrepentant killer to the Caped Crusader's gentleman lover, here are ten totally different characters the Joker has been.
