The film tells the story of Brooklyn based lawyer James Donovan (Tom Hanks), as he is first recruited by the CIA to defend an arrested Soviet spy, Rudolf Abel in court, and then thrown head on into the centre of the conflict when they send him to Germany and task him with the near impossible mission of negotiating the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. However Donovan risks the anger of the agency and the US Government when he decides to stake Abel€™s return to the Soviets on the release of not only the pilot, but also an American student who has fallen victim to the fraught tension in Berlin.

High stakes and suspense power a story inspired by true events that capture the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.
