15 Most Underrated Movies Of The Decade (So Far)

4. Take This Waltz

Take This Waltz is less a movie that's widely underrated, and more one that's underseen to the point most people dismiss it.

The marketing certainly didn't help. Not only does the poster (Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams sat apart on a front porch) make it look like just yet another of those indie relationship dramas seeing a comedian go serious, it's near identical to that used for Enough Said, which, as it contains James Gandolfini's final lead role, dwarfed the more modestly cast indie.

Everything about that poster is wrong. Rogen's a supporting player in the film, only on the one-sheet because of his star status, and the cheerful melancholy it presents is a far cry from the movie's actual tone. This is less a film about relationships, and more an unflinching look at perceived self-worth. Williams' Margot engages in an affair (albeit one of emotions, rather than anything physical) in an attempt to reignite her life, but come the end finds herself more alone than when she began..

The only thing the film really got any public notice for was a scene that saw Williams and Sarah Silverman showering naked at the swimming pool. Fair enough it's shot in a very unprudish way - a big deal for American cinema - but there's so much more to it than that.
