Captain America Civil War: 10 Implications For Infinity War

Civil War was just the beginning.

Captain America: Civil War is by far the most ambitious movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, and considering the immense achievements over the last 8 years, that's really saying something.

All things considered, though, Civil War is really just a stepping stone to the real main event, the two-part Infinity War saga hitting screens on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 respectively.

In the typical Marvel way, Civil War doesn't explicitly set up Infinity War, but it does provide a handful of hints about who might show up, what the nature of the plot might be, and the situation our warring superheroes will be left in as it kicks off.

Though anything is possible, it would be extremely wise for the Russo brothers to run with the ball and pursue these plot threads, set-pieces and character arcs through to their logical payoffs.

Obviously spoilers will follow for Civil War. Here are 10 ways it sets up Avengers: Infinity War...

10. Cap Leads The Secret Avengers

Civil War concludes with Captain America breaking Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Falcon out of prison, essentially ensuring that Team Cap are a brand of renegade superheroes.

This almost certainly means that Infinity War will feature two teams of Avengers: Tony Stark's government-sanctioned line-up, and Cap's rag-tag team of heroes.

What does this mean exactly? Well, Infinity War will most likely depict Cap's team as a modified version of the Secret Avengers (though perhaps without using that name specifically), where they tackle assignments deemed too hot for the official team.

How this plays out will depend on Cap's relationship with both Tony and the government, but expect to see two parallel teams at the start of Infinity War, who surely come together in Part 2 to take on Thanos.
