Big news, Star Wars fans: according to Deadline, a front-runner has emerged in the race to be cast as young Han Solo for the Star Wars Anthology Solo prequel movie. Hopefully it'll have a more elegant title than that.

Inevitably, the casting has been kept mostly secret to date, but it was widely reported that screen tests had narrowed the field down to a few options, includling Taron Egerton, Alden Ehrenreich and Jack Reynor. Now, the Hail, Caesar! youngster has pulled into the lead according to "sources close to casting".

The 26 year old's work to date hasn't exactly been eye-catching or career defining - aside from that stand-out role for the Cohens - but that actually fits the bill for LucasFilm. They shouldn't be looking for someone with too much baggage, and casting relatively fresh would follow their model for all of the franchise's main leads.

The Han Solo project will be directed by The Lego Movie's directing team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller in May 25th, 2018 and will focus on Solo€™s days before he linked up with the rebel alliance. Given the talent behind the camera, we can expect something with humour, charisma and swagger, and clearly LucasFilm are seeing the right blend of the same ingredients in Ehrenreich.
