After they wound up among the (very) few existing Marvel superheroes not to appear in Captain America: Civil War, many fans will be anxious to see Hulk and Thor back in action.

As such, the prospect of the two teaming up in Thor: Ragnarok is a pretty enticing proposition for Marvel devotees. And now, Hulk/Bruce Banner actor Mark Ruffalo has shed a tiny bit of light on what we can expect.

Ruffalo tells ET Online, "It's an intergalactic buddy road movie with Banner and Thor."

Can't you just picture the two of them recreating scenes from Planes, Trains and Automobiles? With all that repressed rage, Banner pretty much is Steve Martin... although Chris Hemsworth's Thor as John Candy might be a little more of a stretch.

Anyway, Ruffalo goes on, "I think it will be smashing. You'll see a lot more Hulk... The Hulk gets Hulk-ier. The Hulk Hulks out. Hulk-ier and bigger."

Given that all indications are The Hulk is unlikely to get a solo movie anytime soon (owing to complications with the character rights at Universal, who released the two existing Hulk movies), this might be the character's best chance yet to take the spotlight.

Ruffalo also enthused about Cate Blanchett's role in Thor: Ragnarok, in what will be the MCU's first female super-villain role.

"She plays the worst of the worst. So evil. She is going to kill us. It's such a great part she gets to play."

Okay, we're pretty sure he's speaking figuratively when he says she's going to kill them. Otherwise... spoiler alert?

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok will see Hemsworth, Ruffalo and Blanchett joined by an impressive ensemble. Making their series debut will be Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie. Meanwhile, existing Thor stars Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston will also be back.

Thor: Ragnarok is due in cinemas November 2017.
