Tom Holland Wants Captain America In Spider-Man: Homecoming Too

Could Spidey's stand-alone be Civil War 1.5?

In the run-up to Captain America: Civil War's European release, Tom Holland spoke to MTV to talk up the difference between his version of the character and what's come before:

"You€™re really gonna get to see a kid with superpowers. And one of the nicest things about is that you see a real kid reacting to Avengers just how a real kid would, and that€™s exactly how I reacted. That€™s one of the main differences."

Obviously, the subject of his own stand-alone also came up, with just over a year before it hits cinemas. When asked which other Avengers he'd like to see in Spider-Man: Homecoming, he offered the following:

"I really like Iron Man, he€™s obviously my favorite. I€™d like Cap to show up at some point. I think that would be really cool if he did..."

Given the fact that Tony Stark has been confirmed (as expected), does this perhaps means Holland knows more about Cap than he's letting on? There was a rumour on the back of Age Of Ultron that both of the top Avengers would be involved when Robert Downey Jr "let slip" that they would be filming together in Atlanta soon, so maybe we should expect Cap?

The question of how Tony Stark will fit into Homecoming is a pretty major one: could we see a continuation of the Civil War story and some of Spider-Man's bigger moments from the comic ported over? That would mean further hints at the Iron Spider costume (though this Stark-approved suit he's currently wearing might already be as close as we'll get), or pressure from Stark (or the government) for Spidey to unmask...

It would be premature to do so, but Jon Watts and team could use it as a means to build a dynamic between the two, and Cap could appear to give Spidey a "recruitment" speech of his own to tell him that unmasking would only do what it did in the comics - invite villains to attack his family.

I don't want that to be the entire narrative thrust of Homecoming, but it would be a good way to make sure it's still an MCU movie as well as Spidey's first solo outing. And it would be the right dynamic to help tell Spidey's story as one of struggle to balance superheroics and being a normal kid.

Director Jon Watts also turned up on the Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 set this week, inevitably setting tongues wagging on the possibility of a cameo for Spidey, but it turns out he was just in the area.
