Will Sharon Stone Make Ant-Man & The Wasp A Basic Instinct Reunion?

Does her "wee part" revelation say more than it initially seemed to?

It's been a long time since we've seem Sharon Stone in much of anything: her work in the past 10 years has been sporadic at best, with some unfortunate decisions (Basic Instinct 2 more than anything) and a generally fading star. Whether that's down to ageism or ability remains to be seen - she's been an acquired taste in a significant number of films, but Hollywood does have a problem with casting older female actresses.

But she might be set for a profile boost, as she's going to be appearing in a Marvel movie pretty soon.

The actress spoke to James Corden on The Late Late Show to confirm that she has a role in an upcoming MCU movie, and there's something in the way she phrased it that seems to hint at a particular project:

€œI am going to do a Marvel movie. I€™m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can€™t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I€™m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That€™s it.€

Does the "wee part" repetition playfully suggest that she's going to be joining the Ant-Man universe? Obviously, the sequel has a Janet Van Dyne-shaped hole in it, and there's surely no way they won't be exploring that unresolved sub-plot when the end of the first film established that coming back from the Quantum Realm was indeed possible.

And of course there's the fact that Hope's shadow was definitely shown in the Quantum Realm sequence, which you have to think will come back into play. Peyton Reed actually confirmed as much when talking about the silhouette:

€œI don€™t know if you caught any of the imagery as Scott is going down into the quantum realm, you might be able, on repeat viewing and definitely when you get the Blu-ray, there€™s something the audience can see down there that Scott doesn€™t see, that, may play a larger role.€

It would be interesting to see Stone cast to play Michael Douglas' wife after their work on Basic Instinct, and Stone's confirmation that her role will only be small would fit. Ant-Man & The Wasp may well focus on the attempt to bring Janet back from the Quantum Realm: it would make sense to go onto an entirely different plane after the first part of Infinity War, and it's a big open question from the first movie.

And if that "heist" is the main thrust of the movie (which would presumably also include another villain with some interest in either the suit or the dimension) then Janet would only need to be a brief cameo when she's found at the end.

There's a chance - of course - that Stone will be cast in something entirely different, but it does feel like Ant-Man & The Wasp is the most likely right now.
