2015 is undoubtably the Year of the Blockbuster. Every franchise and their mother is getting a reboot, sequel or continuation by another name, leading to an inflated summer schedule that, while light on genuine originality (the most unique film out there is based on a DisneyWorld area), looks set to be high on geektastic joy. Throw in Pixar returning to the fold with not one, not three, but two films and no DC movie set to lower the mood with its self-imposed sincerity, and the next twelves months look set to be some of the best in mainstream cinema history. Or maybe not. Although there's some movies that will undoubtably deliver on their promises (Avengers: Age Of Ultron, we would have words with thee), there's also an overwhelming number that, when you peel back their cool-looking exterior, have flop written all over them. You don't have to look far back to find movies fans were incredibly optimistic for that arrived in cinemas stinking the place up. Sony are currently drastically rethinking the future of Spider-Man after their reboot and its sequel have consistent let people down, even devout Tolkien-ites are relieved to see the back of Peter Jackson's Middle-Earth Saga, and Man Of Steel was Man Of Steel. Which 2015 movies will be joining these turkey's in the Hall of Disappointment? Probably these next ten.
Honourable Mention - Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Despite the Prequel Trilogy's less-than-stellar legacy looming large over the space fantasy franchise, hopes are pretty high for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Guess that's what a jaw-dropping shot of the Millennium Falcon in flight can do. By all reckoning the seventh proper Star Wars movie looks set to be a new hope for the series, rather than a menace on its enduring name. There's a great mix of experienced and new talent in front of the camera, while, with life-long fan J. J. Abrams calling the shots, it should deftly balance the new and the nostalgic, something the teaser trailer released a couple of months ago reaffirmed. But the thing is, even if The Force Awakens is an Original Trilogy-level masterpiece, it'll still disappoint. The hype is so massive and, post-prequels, the fans are so picky that there's no hope of the film coming out of 2015 regarded as it (hopefully) deserves. Doesn't mean it'll actually be bad though.
