Channing Tatum might have had some duds in his past, but more recently he's proved that he has the legitimate acting chops to pull off weightier roles. And with his Gambit project looking more and more unlikely with each passing month of inactivity, he deserves something in the comic book movie world.
Tatum is also very much a bankable figure thanks to his established profile and he absolutely has the physicality to convince as the Man Of Steel as well as the chops to handle taking on Clark Kent as well. Some might consider him too much of a traditional "jock" model, but that might not be the worst thing.
And interestingly, of course, he's already played Superman before in The LEGO Batman movie, so he'll have at least SOME familiarity with the role.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
