10 Actors Who Will Never Escape Their Doctor Who Roles

9. Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan's three year tenure as Amy Pond left such a lasting legacy on the celebrated confines of Saturday night science fiction that she was always going to find it difficult to broaden her horizons as she embarked on her post-Who endeavours. But hell, has she tried! After getting zapped back in time by the Weeping Angels, the Scottish star wasted no time in establishing herself as an international on screen force to be reckoned with. She has already made her feature film debut, landed the leading part in a US sitcom and somehow found the time to leave her mark on another formidable fantasy franchise by taking on the reputable role of Marvel mercenary Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy. Gets about a bit, doesn't she? Unfortunately, we were thinking about Amy Pond every step of the way (no, not like that!). While her impressive and seemingly ever growing résumé is the stuff that most actors dream of, Karen has yet to put in a performance that sets her apart from The Girl Who Waited. In fact, most of her roles thus far have basically been Amy Pond with an American accent and the only reason Nebula came close to breaking the mould is because she didn't speak much. Oh, and because she was blue. Yeah, that certainly helped.
