10 'Alternative' Christmas Films That Still Employ Classic Festive Themes

Because isn't Christmas really about death and explosions? Deranged monsters, super villains and taking out terrorists?

Christmas in the movies. A time for family and friends coming together. Learning what matters in life. Sharing. Caring. Celebrating the birth of Jesus and the adventures of a jolly old man in a big red suit. Or is it about death and explosions? Deranged monsters, super villains and taking out terrorists? I could list a whole load of great festive films that perfectly capture the spirit of Christmas (The Muppets Christmas Carol, Scrooged) but this article has a slightly different flavour. I'm going to take you through 10 alternative films for the festive period. The films that could be watched any time of the year, despite their Christmas setting. Films that wouldn't necessarily top anyone's list when you think about what makes up a classic Christmas movie. Except that they kind of do have those elements. Coming together. Family. Love. Hope. Classic Christmas archetypes that all these 'alternative films' employ. Because there is something so magical about Christmas that any film based around it can't help but share that magic too...
