10 Awesome Innovations That Changed Cinema Forever

6. Non-Linear Editing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9bfJQRSK3Y One of the biggest technical revolutions for the film industry was the introduction of non-linear, digital video editing systems. Back in the day, editors had to the rely on the extremely archaic method of manually splicing together the film negative using a splicing machine and sellotape. Though filmmakers began to move towards digital in the 1970s, it wasn't until the digital revolution of the 1990s that it really became popular. Avid is probably the most famous industry editing software, though countless films have also been made on programs like Final Cut Pro. Nowadays, a feature film can be cut to a professional standard on someone's laptop, with countless video and audio tracks, along with complex visual effects. This is all far more cost-effective, and saves plenty of time for the filmmaker.
