10 Awesome Movie Twists You Can Legitimately Ruin For People

6. It€™s Kind Of A Cultural Icon - Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

1980-empire-strikes-backThe Twist: Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker€™s father. Let€™s ignore this twist being ruined liberally in playgrounds the world over by that one snotty kid who€™d been lucky enough to go see Empire on its opening night and look at the small group of people who don€™t know It€™s hard to treat this as a twist at all given just how strong an element it is of popular culture; even people who€™ve never seen Star Wars know Vader is Luke€™s Dad. It€™s been parodied more often than The Matrix€™s bullet-time and the prequels made no effort in hiding this fact, either in the film or marketing. You could be forgiven for not realising Palpatine€™s the Emperor (well, not really but some people are dumb), but not for this. And there's the point. Aside from it being unbelievably difficult to find someone who you can ruin the twist for, if they don€™t know odds are they won€™t care; spoil away. Here I€™d like to remind people of the kid rule - this is definitely one you do not want to tell them as they may actually care.
