6. Its Kind Of A Cultural Icon - Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
The Twist: Darth Vader is Luke Skywalkers father. Lets ignore this twist being ruined liberally in playgrounds the world over by that one snotty kid whod been lucky enough to go see Empire on its opening night and look at the small group of people who dont know Its hard to treat this as a twist at all given just how strong an element it is of popular culture; even people whove never seen Star Wars know Vader is Lukes Dad. Its been parodied more often than The Matrixs bullet-time and the prequels made no effort in hiding this fact, either in the film or marketing. You could be forgiven for not realising Palpatines the Emperor (well, not really but some people are dumb), but not for this. And there's the point. Aside from it being unbelievably difficult to find someone who you can ruin the twist for, if they dont know odds are they wont care; spoil away. Here Id like to remind people of the kid rule - this is definitely one you do not want to tell them as they may actually care.
