10 Awesome Movies It Suddenly Became Cool To Hate

We loved them. Then we hated them. Now we... don't know?

To partly quote Huey Lewis and the News: the movie "backlash" is a curious thing. How does a motion picture, once highly regarded and embraced by the masses, suddenly find itself knocked down, its reputation battered and integrity questioned? It can happen for a number of reasons, of course, but the most obvious one is... popularity. The more popular a movie becomes (or the more money it makes at the box office), the more likely it is to come into contact with a backlash. As more and more people pledge their love for a picture in its initial release stages, the more chance there is that, six months down the line, those same people will have changed their mind about it. In this day and age, it's almost considered to be a thing to embrace something that is enjoyed by the masses - we all have that one friend who liked a band when they were obscure and relatively unknown, only to abandon them when they went mainstream and "sold out." So consider the following list: 10 movies that it suddenly became - for a variety of reasons - cool to hate, despite the fact that they were a) well-received upon initial release and b) considered to be great movies. In some cases, yes, the initial impact has lessened since we first sat down to watch them. What's true of all these movies, however, is that not a single one was deserving of such a massive backlash. What is it with human beings and jumping on that infernal bandwagon?
