10 Awful-Sounding Sequels That Have No Business Being Made

1. Paranormal Activity 5

Release Date: Halloween 2013 Of course - given how poorly the last one went down in my opinion, the upcoming sequel was always going to qualify high on this list. In a move that surprised absolutely noone, next Halloween will see the release of yet another Paranormal Activity film (well, two if you count the Latino spin-off that will come first), despite poorer critical reception and a smaller commercial return than the last three films. Though the film still took $30m in its opening weekend, from just a $5m budget (hence the sequel), film fans and critics are becoming increasing weary of the franchise and its fundamental lack of innovation, and the longer it sticks around, the less return subsequent films are going to achieve. It is already a destructively reductive franchise, which effectively dispenses with all traditional film-making mechanics and replaces them with a gimmick - a model that was fine for the first film, but which has got increasingly frustrating with each release - and the longer the franchise endures, the more stripped bare the films will become.
