10 Best Cult Movie Sub Genres

giallo If there is one thing I have learned about cinema through the years is that it caters for every taste and niche. This is particularly a great thing if you are into cult cinema - there are endless avenues for you to go down and explore. Sometimes sub genres can really capture your imagination and a mini obsession can begin. I openly admit to being fascinated by zombies and cannibal movies. And Mondo movies too - I like my shockumentaries. Sub genres usually tend to be a trend. Most of them do not have a long life cycle. They start off with a flurry of activity - fresh ideas, new concepts and then they sink into plagiarism, ripping each other off and resorting to desperate tactics to catch a saturated market's eye. Just how far can they go? Can you out-nasty Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS? Can you out-gore Human Centipede 2: Final Sequence? Can Cannibal Holocaust be ousted as the most complete cannibal movie experience? Through careful examination of cult sub genres, you can find these answers out for yourself. And if you are too lazy to do that, I have done it for you below! Please chip in with your own favourite sub genre.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
