10 Best "I Want" Songs In Animated Films

1. The Little Mermaid - "Part Of Your World"

The “I Want” song that's set the standard for future ones to come, “Part of Your World” has achieved wide acclaim since its inception almost 30 years ago.

A power ballad that takes place in her underwater grotto, Ariel's signature song has become iconic due to Jodi Benson's memorable performance, the whimsical lyrics that includes the words “thingamabobs” and “whatzits”, and not least the scenes that sees Ariel gazing longingly up towards the surface where she wants to be – part of that world.

In spite of her royal status, her fascination with the human world and her dissatisfaction with her current environment is shown through this song, bringing to light her utmost desire to be part of something new entirely. There's dramatic use of violins, speak-singing and crescendos, all combining together to create a pensive plea to be out of the sea.

Seeing Ariel extending her hand towards the surface before she falls to the ocean floor with one last upward gaze is enough for anybody to want to reach out, grab hold and bring her to the surface.

That she only sings the actual phrase “Part of your world” to Prince Eric later in the reprise instead of the usual “Part of that world” doesn't seem to affect the song's success in any way.
