9. Fallen
Denzel Washington (Malcolm X, Courage Under Fire) plays a detective who puts away a serial killer who goes to the gas chamber. But then the killings start again. Did detective John Hobbes collar the wrong guy? Or is there an evil supernatural presence at work here? Fallen is a crime thriller that combines elements of horror and the supernatural into a satisfying and entertaining cinematic experience. Washington continues to prove his ability to play authentic and convincing characters. As the plot builds and begins to twist and turn the audience is right there with Hobbes. Finding the true villain of this film will be more difficult for Hobbes that he imagined. The capable supporting cast includes Donald Sutherland, James Gandolfini and John Goodman, the hardworking character actor who appears in three movies on this list.
