10 Best Robot Buddies In Movies

Tin-can sidekicks that'd make our adventures easier by half!

The term €œrobot€ must not have existed when they first proclaimed that a dog is a man€™s best friend, at least where cinematic depiction is concerned. While robots in real life are a relatively new phenomenon that rarely do anything other than exactly what they are programmed to do (except perhaps in mechanical failure), robots in movies tend to be very warm and loyal compatriots, good for a chuckle and game for an adventure. There has been a very wide variety of types of robots depicted on the big screen, from the futuristic personal butler to a bloodlusting psychopath to an oversized rock-em sock-em toy. This list will be focused on yet another type- the friendly kind. Despite there being references to €˜automata€™ even in ancient times, the word €œrobot€ itself didn€™t come into existence until the 1920s. Soon thereafter, Fritz Lang€™s Metropolis became the first film to depict a robot onscreen and hoo-boy was it a devious one. This kicked off a long cinematic legacy of robots committing crimes, imitating humans, initiating the apocalypse, and a litany of other not-good stuff. Thankfully there is a whole other crop of good-natured robots out there who really come across as loyal (albeit mechanical) dogs. They€™re friendly, they learn, they joke, and most of all they help their human counterparts in any way they can- sometimes even betraying their programming to do so. Let's get to it;
