10 Best Sibling Rivalries In Horror Movie History

And you thought your family was messed up.

There's no relationship like that of siblings. Best of friends at one moment, worst of enemies the next - and with a whole spectrum of feeling in-between - one's sibling(s) can be anything to anybody, and sometimes a lot of things at the same time. But what does it really mean to be bonded by blood - or family?

From Luke and Leia to Sally and Franklin Hardesty, there's no shortage of movie siblings to look to, if we want to see these relationships depicted onscreen. Typically, these relationships and rivalries are only intensified when we look into the annals of horror movie history.

Here we look at brothers and sisters gone bad - rivalries which have soured to the extent that blood has spilled and there's no saying 'sorry'. Even those who might seem cordial at first glance - they're messed up too, and someone's bound to pay, even if it means taking their problems out on a hapless bystander or love interest.

Whether it be demonic possession, bad blood, or plain and simple madness, here are ten of the most deliciously antagonistic sibling rivalries in horror movie history. Oh, brother. Or sister, as the case may be.

10. Casey And Barto - The Unborn

The Devil's Rejects
Universal Pictures

Released in 2009, David S. Goyer's The Unborn was patently just an excuse to stare at star Odette Annabelle's (then Yustman's) ass.

So shameless was the film about its use of the male gaze, that they even slapped the actor's butt on the poster. The story that they did manage to squeeze in between gratuitous buttock shots? The simple tale of a girl, possessed, by her own dead brother, and the men who attempt to help her.

Unborn Barto is the spirit of Casey's (Annabelle) twin, who died in the womb, and is none too happy about it. A plan is hatched to exorcise the brat, who turns out to be more stubborn than anyone might have imagined.

The Unborn is fairly unmemorable - Drag Me to Hell lite - but it's entirely worth a go-round for the antagonistic relationship between Casey and Barto. Eventually, Barto is vanquished, but not without a fight. The movie culminates in a surprisingly great exorcism sequence, enlisting Gary Oldman and Idris Elba to help rid Casey of her dark passenger.
