10 Biggest Movie And TV News This Week (Jan 25)

Tarantino gets upset, Jackman becomes Blackbeard, Kevin Smith announces new horror series and more.

Screen Shot 2014 01 25 At 08 31 00 Another week, another plethora of news stories to keep our minds occupied. There's nothing quite as shocking as last week's announcement that WB was delaying Batman Vs. Superman 10 months, but nevertheless, we've got some exciting bits of information for this week's WhatCulture news brief. We've got a few casting announcements for films like Through The Looking Glass, Night At The Museum 3 (yep, that's happening), and Joe Wright's Peter Pan; exciting news about Agents of SHIELD (which, let's face it, can use all of the exciting news it can get), and word of a Godzilla tie-in comic. We also know that Bill Cosby will be heading back to NBC after three decades, and that Kevin Smith will be making more movies after what felt like three decades. And, of course, news about that Tarantino movie that just got shelved. All of this and more in this week's news brief! Let's get right into it, shall we?

Honourable Mentions:

HBO Airing 15-Minute Special Preview of Game of Thrones Season 4 We've all been dying to see Westeros again, after another stellar and shocking season of Game of Thrones, and luckily HBO knows it. They'll be airing a 15-minute presentation titled Game of Thrones Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing on Sunday, February 9 at 8:45 PM (ET/PT). It'll have everything from recaps, behind the scenes footage, interviews, and clips from the upcoming season. Gal Gadot Signed 3-Picture Deal For Wonder Woman Odds are this includes Batman Vs. Superman, Justice League, and a Wonder Woman solo film. She claims she's getting $300,000 for each, so anyone hoping she'll get recast can rest assured that WB can cash her out of her contract relatively cheaply if need be. Of course, let's hope that doesn't need to happen. The Flash Pilot Casts Jesse L. Martin The Law & Order Alum will play Detective West, an "honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry Allen." Fans of the comic will obviously recognize Det. West as the father of Iris West, Barry's love interest. A month or so back it was rumored that Ghostbuster Ernie Hudson might land the part, but Martin is a suitable replacement. (via Deadline) Joss Whedon Using Godfather Part II As Avengers Sequel Inspiration If you're going to use any sequel as inspiration, The Godfather: Part II is a good choice! The director had this to say about Avengers: Age of Ultron:
"The events of Captain America will definitely affect the world of Avengers 2. But at the end of the day, I have to make my movie assuming that people will only have seen the first one, or possibly not even seen the first one. I can't assume that everybody went to see Thor , Captain America, and Iron Man 3 in-between. I have to go from one movie to the next and be true to what's happened , but not be slavish to it. [...] The model I'm always trying to build from, or my guiding star, is The Godfather: Part II where a ton has happened in-between and it's a very different movie , but you don't need any information. It's there in the film about what's happened since, what's different, and why is this a different film; why is it a different kind of structure, and why is it darker. It's all there, you're in the vernacular of the first movie and you're just ready to pick up in this new place, and hopefully that's what will happen with my movie. Obviously I'm talking about one of the greatest films ever made (The Godfather: Part II)... I hope mine will be good, but that is my guiding star." (via CBM)
