10 Biggest WTF Moments From This Year's Summer Films
10. Avengers: Infinity War - The Snap
Even now, a mere four months removed from Avengers: Infinity War's theatrical release, it's easy to forget just what a visceral impact the ending had on first-time viewers.
Since then, time has passed and allowed a sense of ease to wash over audiences. Announcements have been made about future projects involving currently-deceased characters, like Spider-Man: Far From Home, and theorists have been hard at work cooking up dozens of different comic-accurate ways the dead could return.
But sitting there opening night, watching half of the Marvel universe and some of the most beloved characters of the last decade turn to dust had an unrelenting ferocity to it. While Marvel had certainly laid out several clues pointing towards this ending before release, such as Gamora referencing the snap in the last trailer, few believed Marvel would actually follow through. Even if Thanos did get to do the snap, good money was on the movie cutting to black and leaving it as a dangling cliffhanger.
But nope. Instead, Marvel went all-in, and gave audiences a three-minute sequence that felt much longer. The Russo's brave choice to forgo any kind of score during this sequence and to pair those dying up with those who it would impact the most (Bucky and Steve, Groot and Rocket, Spider-Man and Iron Man) made for a devastating ending.
