10 Bizarre Hollywood Urban Legends

9. Errol Flynn Was A Nazi Spy

It was in 1980 that Charles Higham published an incendiary biography of the legendary actor, which suggested Errol Flynn was a Nazi sympathiser who had spied for them both during World War II and briefly before it. Higham asserts that Flynn became fast friends with an Austrian member of the Nazi party member, and in the late 1930s, the pair visited Spain, where they began to serve as informants to the Gestapo. Even more incredulously, Higham suggests that Flynn might have attended a secret meeting with Adolf Hitler himself at one of his secluded bases. There's absolutely no solid factual basis for this claim, and it's one easy to dismiss as an author simply trying to sell more copies of their book, for Flynn's own family widely refute the claims, as do countless historians and other biographers of Flynn's. Still, it's one of those scandalous stories that people love to imagine in their head, a world-renowned actor sneaking off to whisper murmurs to the Nazis.
