10 Bonkers Harry Potter Theories That Surely Can't Be True

6. Azkaban Prisoners Become Dementors

A Dementor's Kiss is one of the most feared things in the wizarding world. It's one thing to die, but to have your soul sucked out by a Dementor is to leave you an empty shell. And what if you become one of them when they're done with you? That would be one hell of a punishment, a lifetime to suck the soul out of others. Maybe that's why they guard Azkaban with those beasts; it would certainly be a reminder of where your life is heading if you looked out your window every day to see that. No wonder people fear Azkaban so much. Why it's probably not true If it was true, why not just say it? JK Rowling intended the state that Dementors leave their victims in to be a metaphor for depression. Hagrid claimed that after only a few months in Azkaban, he wished he'd die in his sleep; these were creatures designed to induce insanity. It's more likely that the result of a Dementor's Kiss is simply everlasting hopelessness. Which is not only much more real than the proposed theory, it's actually just as scary.
