10 Box Office Hits That Everybody Expected To Be Huge Flops

Some of the biggest blockbusters of all time were expected to fail.

When it comes to predicting which movies will be hits and those which are likely to flop, industry insiders have a much easier time of it than they did in the past - these days, all they need to do is take a look at the recently unveiled Adobe Digital Index and form their opinion based on social media chatter. Okay, so it's perhaps not quite that simple, but on the whole when it comes to predicting the success or failure of an upcoming movie these analysts get it right more than they don't, as the recent failure of Jupiter Ascending and The Seventh Son goes to show. They aren't the only people to use tracking services - studios also rely on systems such as these to monitor online buzz after they release trailers and other promotional material, often changing their game plan according to the data they receive (even if often that does mean too little too late). Even before new technology made tracking and predicting the popularity of a movie so much easier, insiders generally had a good feel for how an upcoming movie was likely to perform. But the most reliable sources can get things wrong from time to time, judging a film to be a huge flop in the making only to then watch as box office receipts soar through the roof. The following list covers ten movies which were predicted to flop but which ended up raking in the cash and becoming huge hits.
