Financially, it€™s an almost-guaranteed boost for box office numbers: Les Mis alone has made $411,719,000 worldwide in just over two months in theaters, and secured 8 Oscar nominations. In 2012, Broadway shows grossed over $1 trillion, despite tough economic times and notable PR disasters like Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark and the rough stage to screen transition of Rock of Ages marring recent years. These numbers indicate a built-in audience hungry for more of their favorite productions €“ not to mention the legions of theater fans (many of whom are teens and young adults) who simply can€™t afford the price tag on a Broadway ticket, but would gladly shell out $10 for a chance to see their favorite show in a cinema.
