10 Cloverfield Lane: 9 Clues To What The Mystery Sequel Really Is

Monster or marketing trick?

2016 may be offering up a dramatisation of Star Wars' opening crawl and a big screen showdown between Batman and Superman, but the most totally unexpected, WTF movie of the year is 10 Cloverfield Lane. A movie that for all intents and purposes is the long-awaited follow-up to Cloverfield, it has been subject to secrecy that's extreme even by J.J. Abrams standards; unveiled only two months ahead of its 11th March 2016 release date, the movie appears to have been made with nobody even realising. To make things more confusing, the set up couldn't be more unlike the original - Mary Elizabeth Winstead wakes up from a car crash to find herself trapped inside a doomsday bunker by John Goodman, only to begin to suspect it's all a dark ruse a la Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Still, the very obvious titling means everyone's expecting we'll be getting to see another side to the monster attack that left all of Manhattan levelled. Extreme hype levels to say the least. However, despite the trailer being followed up by a couple of interesting TV spots, we're still no closer to cracking the mystery of what this sequel/spin-off/cash-in really is. So let's take a look through all the clues that have been littered throughout the movie's hushed production and what's in those trailers to crack just what's going on at 10 Cloverfield Lane?
