9. Intentionally Getting Captured In Order To Wreak Havoc

the joker clappingAppears In: The Dark Knight & The Avengers Ah, so you thought you had the bad guy captured once and for all, did you? Well, he actually intended to get caught, so he could unleash a wildly convoluted scheme upon you that would break you down from the inside. This was the modus operandi of both The Joker and Loki in their respective films, and though the plans were enormously entertaining to watch, it's a ploy that's not only becomes tiresome in its contrivance, but also woefully predictable. The problem is that blockbuster films in general are adopting a similar through-line; Skyfall and Star Trek Into Darkness both had their villains getting caught on purpose, by which stage we knew what was coming, and it wasn't quite as exciting as when The Joker pulled it off in particular.
