9. The Hangover (2009)
Everyone in the theater was dumber for having watched the film. There are ways to do stupid right (see
Dumb and Dumber). There are ways to do great buddy comedies (see
Tommy Boy, The Blues Brothers). And there are most certainly ways to do Vegas (see
Swingers,
Oceans 11 (1960/2001)). What no one seemed to realize was that
The Hangover was just a Yuppies dream vacation; complete with a cool hip hop soundtrack, minority caricatures, and heart of gold hookers. Repeat after me, "just because it's crass doesn't mean it's funny." I think people are confused, thanks to an over-saturation of inherently immature comedy (hats off to you, Apatow).
