10 Completely Plausible Answers To Unanswered Movie Questions

8. How Did The Woman Survive With Her Kids?

The Mist Near the beginning of The Mist, shortly after the inhabitants of the Convenience Store realise the gravity of their situation, an unnamed Woman (played by Melissa McBride, of The Walking Dead fame) rushes to leave, unafraid of the Monsters now roaming around in the mist outside, just wishing to be reunited with her kids. David Drayton, the film's main protagonist, attempts to stop her and change her mind, warning her that she will be killed if she ventures from the Store. The woman refuses and leaves the Store anyway, caring only to see her Kids again. She is not mentioned for the rest of the film, but at the climax, after one of the bravest and most heart-breaking twists delivered on film, a convoy of Army Vehicles drive past David who is now alone in the now dissipating mist, one of which carries the woman who stands with her Kids under her arms, staring at David as they drive past. This is a big shock at first as when the group of survivors led by David exit the store, first to gather medical supplies from the nearby Pharmacy and eventually to make their escape, they are quickly set upon by various incredibly dangerous Monsters which kill several of them. The fact that this woman could escape so quickly and easily with no help whatsoever when everyone believed that she was heading to her doom is bewildering, but of course there are plausible explanations. Woman_Kids_2 At this point in the film, the group has not actually encountered a Monster, but has only been warned by a frantic man that has entered the store and the first Monster that they do encounter is at the rear exit of the store when they are attempting to fix the store's generator. Because of this, it is conceivable that the Monsters have not actually reached the store's main entrance as of yet and that the front of the store is actually quite safe, although covered in mist. It is plausible that the woman may have made it through the mist and to her car in order to escape just before the Monsters arrived and attacked the store. It is quite revealing that she is the only person who wishes to leave simply to be reunited with their family members, even David does not jump to leave the store and search for his wife, who he later finds dead, even turning down the Woman's pleas for an escort to help her through the mist. The fact that he and his son would both have survived if he had taken the risk to help her add even further heartache to the final scenes of the film.
