The Day The Earth Stood Still Movies are absolutely filled to the brim with contrived, coincidental and convenient occurrences that, simply put, either wouldn't happen in the real world or happen very rarely. More often than not, when we're watching them, these occurrences force us to use our internal monologues to ask "really?!", as the sheer ridiculousness of what we're witnessing dumbfounds us, sometimes, to the point of not wanting to watch any more. Of course, these things generally happen for a reason. They're plot devices that allow the movie in question to move on, or they occur to necessitate a character's next move, but they often still feel forced and can take away any modicum of realism or willing suspension of disbelief on the part of the viewers. That said, this is Hollywood that we're talking about and it wouldn't be Hollywood without a bit of ridiculousness to make the viewer feel as if they're escaping from reality for a couple of hours - and that's what watching movies is all about, right?
