10 Craziest Movie Directors

10. Ruggero Deodato

ruggero deodato Ruggero Dedodato is most likely the least well-known on this list, which frankly, is a good thing. You might have heard of Cannibal Holocaust, Deodato was the brain behind that. If you're not familiar with the film, it contains horrific scenes of torture, murder, rape and several intensely upsetting scenes that show explicit cruelty to animals. Deodato insisted on realism which means that the sex was unsimulated, even for the rape scenes and that many animals were brutalised and killed by Deodato and his crew. Merits (or a lack of them) for the film aside, only one very crazy individual could make this movie in the way it was made. The cast spent most of the production teetering on walking because of the upsetting content and problems over payment and the natives were systematically abused and exploited by Deodato, and it all ended up in a court of law, where the director had to defend himself against mounting pressure from all quarters. Whatever your feelings on the final picture, this is not how you make a film and its apologists are ridiculous. The movie would not be half as shocking if it wasn't for the gross cruelty of the production, and I have to think that we, the audience, are almost as crazy as Deodato for sitting through the damn thing.
