10 Creepy Similarities Between Nolan And Burton’s Batman Movies

10. I€™m Batman - Created By Burton, Popularised By Nolan

Burton€™s films forged some pretty integral parts of the character; the grapple gun, an item that the utility belt would feel empty without (if only so we can quickly get over that bloody bridge in Arkham Origins), was first introduced in Batman. What is often skirted over (probably because fans care more about the Batclaw) is that that film also introduced what is now the series' quintessential phrase; €œI€™m Batman€. Ubiquitous to the point it has its own YouTube compilations (although half the clips in those are admittedly from The Big Bang Theory), the phrase is to Batman what €œHulk smash€ is to Bruce Banner. But to pin the praise on Burton and Keaton is a little misguided. In more than a little bit of homage, the quote pops up during Bruce€™s first appearance all suited up in Batman Begins. It was this delivery, with the rasping Bale voice, that really pushed it into the zeitgeist. So not only is the line one of the few conscious parallels between the two franchises, but it€™s the only point where they actively worked together. Given The Dark Knight Trilogy naturally wanted to distance itself from Burton€™s films (or, more accurately, what came after them), it€™s rather ironic it€™s most quotable (non-Joker) line originates from them.
