7. Triangle

This is the third, and last, appearance by Christopher Smith on this list I can promise you. It’s by pure chance that he has ended up on this short-list as regularly as he has. Well, chance and the fact that he has made three genuinely strong British horror movies in the last ten years…and the lamentable Sean Bean film Black Death, too, but the least said about that the better. Triangle is his strongest movie though; an inventive, original play on the slasher movie tropes we know inside out. The film follows a group of friends on a yacht trip who become stricken from a storm and take refuge on a passing ocean liner. There they find themselves slowly picked off one by one as one of the group slowly fights to come to terms with the overwhelming sense of deja vu that is forcing her hand at every turn.
