10 Deeply Disturbing Horror Films You Probably Missed

9. Colin (2008)

url-11 Zombies! I love zombies. They cheer me up immensely. This little horror picture is an absolute gem that has been overlooked in the zombie film stakes. It has a gimmick - the film is seen through the eyes of a zombie. This may sound comparatively dull compared to battling zombies but you will be surprised how much hijinx our dead friend Colin gets up to. Colin is turned into a zombie by his dead friend Damien. He wanders the streets of London and has various adventures before being captured by his sister Linda who takes him home to see if she can domesticate him. Unfortunately Colin has taken a bite oout of her arm and she is doomed no be zombified. Nor does Colin show any recognition of family. His mother and Linda's boyfriend flee leaving Linda and Colin to randomly shuffle away. Colin cops a grenade blast that takes off most of his face. He makes his way to a friend Laura's house where there is a flashback to Laura holding a zombie in the bathroom. The zombie bit her and she died in Colin's arms, reanimated, bit Colin and we are back at the beginning of the film. This film has received a real mauling from zombie film fans. You would think from their acid remarks that the director of the film or Colin himself had crapped in their mouths. Given that this is ultra-low budget cinema, I think the filmmakers have done a great job with an inventive idea. After all, in a zombie apocalypse, you are about 200,000 times to 1 more likely to be a zombie rather than a human so get with the program folks! And that is what gives this film its disturbing power - what life in Zombieville will likely be for most of us... shuffling and boring.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
