10 Delayed Sequels That Really Weren't Worth The Wait

8. Basic Instinct 2 (14 Years)

Basic Instinct is hardly a classic, but Paul Verhoeven's erotic thriller does boast the director's usual overblown style and a career-making performance from Sharon Stone as the psychopathic Catherine Tramell. Riding a wave of publicity, the movie would go on to earn over $350m at the box office, unsurprisingly generating talk of a sequel. After over a decade stuck in development hell Basic Instinct 2 (subtitle Risk Addiction completely optional) was finally released. And it was just awful. Quite possibly one of the worst sequels ever made, the follow-up was a critical and commercial disaster, earning just $38m worldwide against a budget of $70m and being savaged by reviewers, with the movie currently sitting at a whopping 7% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not even 'so bad it's good' but just plain terrible, the plot is equal parts predictable and stupid, and it instantly became clear why the only person that had any real interest in the long-delayed sequel was Sharon Stone.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
