10 Disappointing Movies That Ruined Summer 2013

6. Star Trek Into Darkness

kirk-into-darkness-featDid It Succeed?: $452.1 million worldwide box office cume, and 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. You do the maths... Why It's Disappointing: As so often happens with movies as audacious as JJ Abrams' Star Trek reboot, the sequel struggles to live up to its level of invention, resulting in sure disappointment. Though Star Trek Into Darkness is a perfectly functional, entertaining action film, it just lacks the ingenuity of the previous film, and seems content not to push the boat out. The film fleets from set-piece to set-piece with only a minimum commitment to narrative, while far too much importance was placed on the "twist" surrounding Benedict Cumberbatch's character. On top of this, the film shamelessly borrows from classic Trek in a blandly unimaginative manner, and though on the whole it is an impressive production, it just feels like less effort was put into the story this time.
