10 Disturbing Backstories Behind Your Favourite Movie Characters

10. Furiosa Was One Of Immortan Joe's Infertile Wives (Mad Max: Fury Road)

It's not a controversial statement that Furiosa (Charlize Theron) ends up stealing the show away from Max (Tom Hardy) in Mad Max: Fury Road, though by the time the end credits roll, the precise nature of her backstory is still left relatively ambiguous.

But during Fury Road's press tour, Charlize Theron dished the dirt on Furiosa's origins, revealing that she was in fact kidnapped from the Green Place in her youth and taken to the Citadel to become one of Immortan Joe's (Hugh Keays-Byrne) wives.

However, it turned out that Furiosa was infertile, and so she was discarded, resulting in her (somehow) losing her arm.

She then eked out an existence on the fringes of the wasteland, biding her time as she plotted her revenge plan, to steal Joe's wives away from him and transport them to the safety of the Green Place.

Nobody ever expected Furiosa to have a cheery origin story, but this is straight-up gnarly.
