10 Dream Directors For Hollywood's Biggest Franchises

9. Duncan Jones - Star Trek

Sticking with sci-fi, Duncan Jones was reportedly one of the top contenders for directing Star Trek Beyond before Justin Lin landed the gig and should a fourth entry in the rebooted franchise ever materialize, the man born Zowie Bowie would be an outstanding choice.

Feature debut Moon and follow-up Source Code are wildly different movies from both a narrative and stylistic perspective, but still fall under the sci-fi umbrella. As well as showcasing Jones' versatility while working under genre constraints, both efforts remain firmly focused on character development rather than spectacle, which has always been a hugely important aspect of Star Trek ever since the original series.

Warcraft may have disappointed critics, but it nonetheless cost less to produce and earned more at the box office than Star Trek Beyond. It also gave Jones the valuable experience of marshaling a mega-budget studio project and while the video game adaptation isn't great, the ambitious world-building and frequently-impressive visuals make Jones a solid choice to boldly go where J.J. Abrams and Justin Lin have gone before.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
