10 Essential 2015 Movies You Might've Missed (So Far)

Away from the big releases, there has been some incredible filmmaking released this year.

Say what you will about the Hollywood studio system, but when it gets things right the results can be incredible - it's almost worth putting up with dreadful and pointless remakes and sequels if, once in a while, a stunning movie like Mad Max: Fury Road gets released. When it comes to "must-see" Hollywood movies released this year, perhaps only Pixar's beautiful and heartfelt Inside Out deserves a mention - although in fairness there have been more than a few great popcorn movies which delivered the goods to varying degrees (Jurassic World and Furious 7 being two obvious examples). But away from the mainstream - or at least, away from the obvious blockbusters - great movies have been released in 2015 that only enjoyed limited runs at the multiplexes or art house cinemas and are therefore easily missed. Whether it's a low budget American independent comedy, a surreal Swedish satire or a Persian drama, these are great films which nevertheless fail to get the same level of exposure as their big budget counterparts. If you want to check out Oscar Issacs and Adam Driver in some of their best work before the release of The Force Awakens or you're in need of an antidote to Terminator Genisys, check out these ten essential movies from 2015.
