url-2 When it comes to those movies that we all consider to be "classics," it's nearly always impossible to remove them from the shadows of their directors. Because even if you're not particularly inclined towards the cinema, everybody knows that George Lucas made Star Wars and that Steven Spielberg was the genius behind Jaws. There's hardly anybody alive who doesn't know that Francis Ford Coppola was the guy responsible for both The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, and that Woody Allen made Annie Hall. The ties that movie classics have to their directors are unbreakable - the "association" they share is part of the experience. That said, it might be shocking to learn that in a whole bunch of cases, the directors we associate with some of cinema's best movies weren't even supposed to be there in the first place. In fact, many of them were second choices or third of fourth in line, or found themselves in charge of production at the very last minute.
