10 Film And TV Characters That Racked Up Massive Body Counts

Killing in the name of... entertainment?

The Walking Dead Rick Grimes
AMC

There has always been plenty of criticism surrounding the depiction of violence in both film and television, particularly when it comes to the supposed 'glorification' of some of these acts. Sometimes such graphic scenes serve to further the plot, develop characters and provide moments that get people talking, while other times its simply just a hell of a lot of fun to watch someone mow down an endless sea of interchangeable henchman before dropping a well-timed one-liner.

The action movie in particular is packed with actors who have built their entire brands on dishing out death, with the internet full of infographics depicting the exploits of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Segal and Chuck Norris to name but a small few. However, outside of the over-muscled relics of the 1980's there are also quite a number of small screen characters that have built up impressive body counts of their own.

This article will look at ten characters from both film and television that have racked up a massive number of onscreen kills, whether it be from a single movie, a franchise or a long-running series. Featuring death by everything from bullets and bombs to carrots and kung fu from characters ranging from one-man armies to high school students, the common theme is that you definitely wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of any of them.

10. Inspector Tequila - 77 Kills

The Walking Dead Rick Grimes
Golden Princess Film Production

Cinema's most bad-ass clarinet enthusiast leaves a trail of destruction in his wake throughout the course of John Woo's action classic Hard Boiled, and is directly responsible for over a quarter of the movie's astronomical body count of 307. To be fair, it probably would have ended up a lot higher had a great deal of Tequila's kills not come in glorious airborne slow-motion.

From the opening shootout at the tea-house to the jaw-dropping hospital climax, Tequila deploys a huge variety of techniques in dispatching of his enemies. Whether it be sliding down a staircase, diving through the air, rappelling from the ceiling, dual wielding pistols or simply blasting a hole through the bad guy's eye, Chow Yun Fat's iconic action hero racks up a lot more kills than your average jazz bar patron that's for sure.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
