10 Films The Irish Censors Hated

7. Baise Moi (2000)

base moi Baise Moi is the story of Nadine and Manu, two young women who are marginalised from French society. Manu is gang-raped and shoots her tormentor. Nadine has an argument with her flat mate and strangles her. The two women are drifting about and come together over a shared bond of anger at the rest of the world. The two girls go on a violent spree all over France but eventually their sins find them out. Probably banned due to its graphic unsimulated depiction of rape and other acts of sexual violence, Baise-moi was banned by the Irish Censors but shown in private art house clubs. As far as I know, the ban still holds to this day.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
