10. Blood Quantum

You'll be forgiven if you haven't heard of Blood Quantum, as it only just wrapped filming but is set to debut at Cannes in a few weeks. The zombie thriller actually has quite an original premise, with an outbreak of infected individuals tormenting the isolated Mi’gMaq reserve of Red Crow.

In a twist, it turns out the indigenous inhabitants (three of which are pictured in the new image released above) are immune from the virus, which only does so much to stop them from becoming zombie chow, but it's something.

The film is being made by a bunch of relative unknowns, but there's a real push behind the horror project, and it's clear that distributors XYZ films feel like they have something special on their hands.

Though they didn't entirely go away, there's a hunger for zombie films to come back in style, and original takes on the genre like this could ensure that they do.
