10 Foods Made Infamous By The Movies

"I drink your milkshake!"

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach and it's true - food is a stimulant that can arouse powerful memories or evocative emotions. In film, this response is generally positive - playing on themes of nostalgia, love and childhood excitement respectively; remember the scene in Ratatouille, where the villainous food critic is transported back to his childhood by the power of a single dish? Or that moment in Lady and the Tramp, where the two dogs steal a kiss over a bowl of spaghetti? What about that first feast Harry experiences at Hogwarts? All are famous scenes where food is used to garner an emotional response. Unfortunately, where the positive effects of good food are known, so too are the negative connotations. One could only hazard a guess as to why food - the thing required to stay alive, this thing we take great pleasure in - has such an ill-effect on us when shown to be misused or depicted in a manner we don't see fit. While the 'why' remains a mystery, its effect is no secret and has consequently been abused by scriptwriters and directors for years, used as a tool to achieve a shock value or even genuine repulsion. This article compiles a list of films where such utilization of food has been expressed - some of it comically, some of it sexually and some of it just downright disturbingly. Please enjoy... but it's probably wide not to read on either an empty or a full stomach...
